Eric Stonestreet is a straight actor playing part of a gay couple on the Emmy-winning comedy Modern Family.
The actor still cares enough about the issue of same sex marriage to turn down a photo request from a former (and future?) presidential candidate.
Stonestreet told HuffPoLive this week how he ended up meeting former Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa) and his kids during a White House Correspondents Dinner event. To Stonestreet’s shock, the politician known for supporting traditional marriage asked if he and his children could take a picture with the TV star.
The actor could only accommodate part of the request.
Rick Santorum wanted a picture with me. It was at a time when he was publicly saying, ‘Gay marriage, gay marriage [is wrong],’ and I’m like, ‘You know, I can’t do it,'” he said. “It was with him and his kids or something like that, and I said, ‘I’d be happy to take a picture with the kids, but I can’t just be in a picture with [Santorum.]’
