LOS ANGELES, June 20 (UPI) — Former Congressman Ron Paul is set to make his acting debut in Atlas Shrugged: Who is John Galt?
The film is the final installment in the John Aglialoro-produced trilogy based on Ayn Rand’s 1957 novel Atlas Shrugged. Who is John Galt? continues the story of a dystopian U.S. in a state of economic collapse.
“Atlas Shrugged is a fantastic book, but it’s much more than a story,” Paul tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s a philosophy. It’s influenced millions of people already and because of its greatness it’s going to continue to influence a lot of people.”
“I love Atlas Shrugged,” Beck said. “Fountainhead I love more, but who could say no?”
Atlas Shrugged: Part I failed to impress at the box office in 2011. The movie earned back $4.6 million of a $20 million budget and currently holds an 11 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the poor reception, Part II was released in 2012. It earned $3.3 million of a $10 million budget and has a 5 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
The story’s themes often appeal to conservatives, and the inclusion of conservative personalities may have an impact on the third film’s success.
“We put out a casting call and those are the only guys who showed up,” co-producer Harmon Kaslow jokes. “It could be the subject matter. These are people who speak to our audience and all of them have showed an affinity for the book, so it made sense to reach out to them.”
Atlas Shrugged: Who is John Galt? is scheduled for release September 12, ahead of the midterm elections.
