The History Channel Targets Tea Party Viewers with 'Sons of Liberty'

The History Channel may need some help with its marketing division, but the network understands what audiences hunger for in the Age of Obama.

The channel is producing Sons of Liberty, a new, six-part miniseries devoted to a group of “radical” men who forged a nation. Think Sam Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Paul Revere and John Hancock.

The cast includes Ben Barnes, Dean Norris, Rafe Spall, Martin Csokas and Emily Berrington.

Here’s how the channel describes the production:

Calling themselves the Sons of Liberty, they light the spark that ignited a revolution. Though their names have become American legend, this group of young rebels didn’t start off as noble patriots in powdered wigs. They were a new American generation of young men from varied backgrounds, struggling to find purpose in their lives. They were looking for equality, but they found something greater: Independence.

The miniseries comes at an interesting time in our political culture, given the Constitutional questions being raised on a weekly basis by the current Obama administration.
