TCM Memorial Tribute to The Mighty Mickey Rooney Airs Sunday

Sunday, April 13, Turner Classic Movies will pay tribute to Mickey Rooney with an all-day marathon of 13 films.
Set your DVRs.
The only one I have never seen is 1936’s “The Devil is a Sissy,” which pairs Rooney with fellow child/teen stars Freddie Bartholomew and Jackie Cooper. Woody Van Dyke directing. Top-notch cast. Thank heaven for TCM.
It’s a solid schedule, though I would have liked at least a couple of Rooney’s more obscure dramatic roles. “Quicksand” and “Baby Faced Nelson” are almost impossible to find and Rooney really delivers the goods in both. I just ordered “Quicksand” from Amazon. “Baby Faced Nelson” has never even been on DVD. My thanks to Variety’s Scott Foundas for reminding me of both.
Anyway, if you can only catch one Sunday night, make it “The Human Comedy.” I reviewed this unheralded masterpiece at length back in 2012. Movies don’t come any better.

Sure-fire tent-poles to attract the fanboys on opening weekend that satisfy the Chinese government.
This is where it’s all headed. Everything else is going to be Video On Demand.
I’m fine with that.
Daily Beast: Jimmy Fallon’s Surprising Centrist Style
The Daily Beast picks up on the fact that newly-installed “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon has not become what everyone feared he would: Just another hip, ironic, smug left-winger like Letterman, Kimmel, Colbert, Stewart, etc.
For the reason stated above, Fallon was smart to do this. The way to succeed in Late Night is not to ape everyone else. Betraying Johnny and Jay’s legacy of being a television show for America as opposed to the Democrat Party is a sure-fire way to find yourself lost in the pack with middling ratings.
Sure, the media elites will love you, but do you want to go down in history as the man who killed the “Tonight Show,” or at least was responsible for it losing its ratings dominance?
Fallon kept and improved on Leno’s audience because he brought something fresh without betraying those who trusted Leno.
What a thing that it is now noteworthy when conservatives have a place to go on television where they aren’t told they are unwelcome.
‘Seinfeld’ Actor Dies…
Someone on my Twitter feed made the great point of how unfair it is that so many in the media are pegging comedian John Pinette as the “Seinfeld” actor, just because he had the misfortune of appearing in the much-maligned final episode.
Pinette died Sunday at the age of 50.
Very funny and talented guy who worked clean.

‘Vanity Fair Is Latest Magazine to Reduce Scarlett Johansson Into a Sex Fantasy’
In the new Captain America film there is a low-angle shot from behind of Scarlett Johansson where she’s in her super-tight Black Widow pants with her legs spread apart. Nothing in movies is an accident, especially a $175 million movie. Johansson knew what the shot was and has been happy to exploit her sexuality in movies and magazines for years.
She doesn’t rev my motor, so I’m baffled by the frenzy, but that she is ready, willing, and eager to sell herself as a sex fantasy is obvious to anyone with eyes.
And now some Vanity Fair writer plays along and now he’s getting blasted for objectifying a woman who has made a career of selling herself as a hot, blonde piece of objectification.
The whole of the left-wing feminist movement is based on how to gotcha men.
