Triona Priestley passed away this week after a long struggle with cystic fibrosis, but in her last moments she was serenaded by her favorite pop star.
A Twitter campaign to convince British singer Ed Sheeran to sing for the gravely ill 15-year-old from Dublin came through moments before her passing. A friend chronicled Triona’s final minutes, which included the girl’s dying wish, via social media.
She wrote on Facebook: ‘It is with great sadness that I have to share with you all today – our beautiful angel was taken from us.
‘As we all know about the Twitter campaign, Ed’s manager Stuart Camp emailed me and today Ed rang Triona and personally sang Little Bird to her as she took her last breaths.
‘Triona left us listening to her idol surrounded by all the people who loved her.
Sheeran sang Little Bird, a song the teen adored.
