A live political comedy show might have made hay from the President of the United States hitting the links as a global crisis unfolds.
Not Saturday Night Live.
The once great sketch comedy show is expert at ignoring news that could paint President Barack Obama in a bad light.
So Saturday night’s cold open featured Liam Neeson joining with Obama impersonator Jay Pharoah for a silly skit about Russia’s troop deployment in Crimea. After all, what could possibly be funny about the Commander in Chief scoring some quality golf time while a strong leader is in high demand?
The skit in question did its best to paint Obama’s Russian policies as reasonable, making Vladimir Putin the bad guy. No mention of those red lines Obama paints and then ignores, or the message that feckless behavior sends to world leaders.
The show did have enough time, however, to promote Planned Parenthood and slam a pro-lifer in one pointed sketch.
