Lena Dunham will be honored in April for taking a “leadership role” on LGBT issues, but the Girls star is still on the defensive regarding her Vogue article.
The star of the low-rated HBO dramedy will receive the Horizon Award from the gay advocacy group Point Foundation at its April 7 gala.
“There is no one better at conveying the ambition of today’s young adults to overcome obstacles and realize their great potential than Lena Dunham,” says foundation executive director and CEO Jorge Valencia in a statement.
Dunham also made news today courtesy of an interview conducted with Grantland.com’s Bill Simmons. She took on the site Jezebel for offering $10,000 for untouched photos of her taken during a recent Vogue photo shoot.
I think Jezebel is really smart and funny, I think it’s just like once you’ve been attacked that way it’s hard to enjoy. It’s hard to enjoy once you feel like they’ve made such a monumental error in their approach to feminism….”
But she added that she did not like the way Jezebel framed their discovery, as something that could have been worse. “It was this weird almost political maneuvering that I just had a lot of trouble respecting,” she said.
The self-described feminist frequently appears nude on her HBO series, in part, to showcase a sense of realism she says other shows lack.
