Joel McHale, star of NBC’s Community and the long-running series The Soup, will be the designated comic for the upcoming White House Correspondents’ Dinner.
The event, a confab between Beltway denizens and Hollywood elite, features both a comic performance by the president as well as a brief stand-up routine by the chosen comic.
Jimmy Kimmel gave a relatively fair and balanced comic routine in 2012, while Stephen Colbert used his 2006 slot to torch President George W. Bush.
McHale isn’t known for his political material. He’s a puckish personality, quick with a pop culture jab and uppercut.
