Hollywood routinely uses its content to influence hearts and minds, hoping the right heart-tugging storyline will make a difference on issues like fracking or gun control.
At the same time, actors, screenwriters and directors alike say they cannot be held responsible if a film or show influences an audience member to break the law.
Enter Josh Romney, son of former GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney. The son says that had Mitt, the new Netflix documentary capturing the human side of his dad as he ran against President Barack Obama, come out before Election Day 2012, the outcome might have been different.
Josh Romney said if the nation had seen this side of his dad before the election, he likely would be president of the United States today.
“Knowing that, you know, he has no further political ambition, they can see that this is just purely a film that’s been released by another person and not part of an agenda or propaganda. This is just life as it was on the campaign trail,” Josh Romney said.
