The Broadcast Film Critics Association held their 19th Annual Critics Choice Movie Awards in Santa Monica, CA last night. The show was broadcasted live on The CW, but Breitbart News was their to witness the actors reactions first hand. The CCMA are considered to be a huge predictor in which way The Academy might vote and this year critics recognized an array of films and actors including a pro-Navy SEAL film snubbed by Oscar voters.
12 Years A Slave took the top honor winning Best Picture and also Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Supporting Actress, but Gravity was the night’s top winner taking home seven awards including Best Director and Best Actress in an Action Movie. American Hustle took home four awards including Best Comedy, Best Acting Ensemble and Best Actress in a Comedy.
The Critics Choice Awards mimicked much of Sunday’s Golden Globes, with the exception of Lupita Nyong’o taking home the prize for Best Supporting Actress for 12 Years A Slave instead of Jennifer Lawrence, and Lone Survivor taking home some well-derserved honors, including Best Action Movie and Best Actor in an Action Movie.
Cate Blanchett took home the Best Actress award for her incredibly dedicated performance in Blue Jasmine. And with 12 Years A Slave winning in many critics circle group, I predicted Chiwetel Ejiofor to win, but it looks like critics favored Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club awarding him Best Actor and to no surprise Jared Leto taking home the trophy for Best Supporting Actor. With the Academy Awards just around the corner airing Sunday March 2, we will most likely see Blanchett, McConaughey and Leto take home the gold again.
There were several memorable speeches last night including the moment where there was an audio snag during Sandra Bullock’s acceptance speech and the actress dropped the F-bomb. Leonardo DiCaprio apologized to his parents for everything he did in the movie while accepting the award for Best Actor in a Comedy for The Wolf of Wall Street.
Mark Wahlberg thanked the armed forces and the real-life heroes who inspired the film in his acceptance speech saying, “I wanna thank my wife and my kids for allowing me to pretend to be as important as a soldier fighting in Afghanistan.”
