The A&E reality show Duck Dynasty doesn’t merely traffic in southern-fried cliches. It lets the economically strong clan reveal themselves to be much more than the sum of their scraggly beards.
CMT’s upcoming reality show Party Down South may end up doing something similar, but the show’s web site certainly doesn’t portend such a nuanced portrait.
The series, set to debut at 10 p.m. EST Jan. 16, is being marketed with a series of wacky stills from the show including one in which a cast member is seen diving into a river without swimming trunks. The site asks web surfers for a potential solution to the problem, with the answers either being A. Jesus, B. Duct Tape or C. Whiskey.
Site visitors can vote for their choice, share their rationale via social media and see the poll results.
Other stills feature images right out of Jersey Shore, which is no accident since the creative team behind that MTV hit helped create Party Down South.
Here’s how CMT describes its latest show:
Follow eight young, brazen adults for one wild summer of extreme fun. Their summer vacation spot, Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, may never be the same after these fast friends work, party and bond with one another over their common love of the South.
