A new video featuring John Cusack, Maggie Gyllenhaal and director Oliver Stone warns against massive overreach by the NSA’s domestic spying program. The clip features repeated images of President Richard M. Nixon, for many the face of government corruption.
The one person left out of the new video–the leader currently defending the NSA, President Barack Obama.
The video gathers the aforementioned actors along with several noted whistleblowers and Rep. John Conyers (D-MI). They collectively warn about the dangers of a government spying on its own people.
Cusack: In the surveillance state, democracy itself is dead.
Gyllenhaal: We need to end mass, suspicion-less surveillance.
One gets the sense that if President Mitt Romney lived in the White House Hollywood en masse would be outraged by the NSA’s spying practices. As it is, only Cusack and Stone, far-left talents who speak out during both Republican and Democrat administrations, and the talented but lesser known Gyllenhaal are left to show their outrage.
So why won’t they mention the current Commander in Chief in the process?
