To kick off the Christmas season, Lady Gaga will co-host a 90 minute “Holiday Spectacular” on Thanksgiving night with the Muppets.
Lady Gaga & the Muppets’ Holiday Spectacular will air on ABC, where the pop star will sing songs from her album Artpop. Lady Gaga flirting with the Muppets isn’t new, as she once took Kermit as her date to the MTV Video Music Awards, toyed with pieces from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop when she performed on her Monster Ball Tour and once wore a bevy of Kermit the Frog dolls as a dress for a TV interview.
The real incongruity is Lady Gaga celebrating the holiday season. This is the same star who made a Judas music video in 2011 in which the 12 disciples ride down the highway on motorcycles and Mary Magdalene ends up being stoned to death by the public. She claimed, “I believe I was put on this earth to cause a ruckus.”
Her video Alejandro shows her wearing a robe with an inverted cross printed on it in many places, and another shot of her uterus decorated with an inverted cross. She also swallows a rosary.
To pair the scantily clad, Christian-bashing performer with the Muppets is truly astonishing, but to do so as a tribute to the holiday season is downright offensive.
