FOX has a fun and ridiculous new show called Sleepy Hollow on its Monday night schedule. It doesn’t have much to do with the famous short story by Washington Irving, but everyone involved from Len Wiseman to Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman to the actors make sure the show has a lot to do with conspiracy theories, the book of Revelations and the Revolutionary War. It’s a unique endeavor that more conservative, right of center and libertarian viewers may derive some extra pleasure from.
Sleepy Hollow harkens back to the Revolutionary War and clouds it with some Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter type mythology. Turns out that the tyrannical, over-taxing British are on the side of the devil and actually trying to bring about the end of the world, and George Washington and his merry freedom lovers are trying to save not just the future United States but the entire world.
Told you this show was fun.
Another aspect to the show to love is Tom Mison’s Ichabod Crane who is thrust into the future with that famous headless horseman. He’s against tyranny, enslavement and taxes! He’s a wonderful fish out of water and it’ll be great to see the writers contrast him with the politically correct and government heavy twenty first century. Fingers crossed that they don’t mess it up and keep him a fun and stern, freedom-loving “Captain America” to foil with today’s more liberal and/ or fascist populace of Occupy Wall Street, scheming career politicians and war mongers.
Sleepy Hollow will certainly appeal to any and all conspiracy theorists, right of center viewers or perhaps even some religious crowds looking for a fun television show.
I’m not necessarily saying that Wiseman and company mean to have created a Tea Party friendly series. Based on the pilot, they’ve merely created a ridiculous show with a lot of cool themes and a good sense of humor. It’s one of the more fun shows on network television. The series has the potential to be a favorite for right-leaning audiences. It’s certainly got the potential to be one of mine.
Sleepy Hollow airs at 9/8c Monday nights on FOX.
