Michael Douglas got into the spirit of Liberace’s private life while accepting his Emmy for the HBO film Behind the Candelabra Sunday night.
Douglas played the flamboyant, and closeted, entertainer in the HBO biopic, and when he won the Emmy for Best Actor in a Movie or Miniseries he thanked co-star Matt Damon who played his on-screen lover.
Douglas started his speech by saying the role was a “two hander,” meaning he needed Damon to make his own performance sparkle. The crowd began to titter based on the sexual innuendo hanging in the air, so Douglas apparently decided to go even further.
“So, you want the bottom or the top?” Douglas cracked to his Candelabra co-star, seated near the front of the auditorium and grinning like a school boy.
Behind the Candelabra also won an Emmy for Best Movie or Miniseries.
