The fictional boxing match we’ve always wanted to see is on its way. The full trailer recently hit the web for Grudge Match, a comedy about two past their prime boxers who decide to reignite their old feud with one final showdown.
The part that makes the film interesting is that the two old men are played by Robert De Niro (Raging Bull) and Sylvester Stallone (Rocky). Check out the trailer below along with some thoughts.
Grudge Match is directed by Peter Segal (50 First Dates, Get Smart) so it isn’t a surprise that the film looks like a conventional comedy complete with tongue in cheek references and old man cracks. What surprises, however, is what seems like the maturity of the film when dealing with the ages of its falling stars. Stallone and De Niro look like they’ve got some punches to throw outside of the ring that are going to give this flick some unexpected weight.
The comedy looks like it’ll be a pleasing picture with some interesting themes on age and regret and, hopefully, one hell of a boxing match between Rocky Balboa and Jake LaMotta.
Grudge Match hits theaters on Christmas Day.
