Move over Dexter and Hannibal, there’s a new serial killer coming to the small screen.
FX is prepping a series based on Bret Easton Ellis’ American Psycho, the raw novel which became a 2000 film starring Christian Bale as the murderous main character.
The novel told the story of a wealthy young investment banker in the late 1980s who moonlit as a serial killer. A film version starring Christian Bale was released in 2000. The FX version will be set years after the events in the book and star a Bateman in his 50s who takes on a new apprentice.
The TV landscape is littered with anti-heroes–look no further than current “It” series Breaking Bad. The surge in serial killer characters marks a newer, more bleak component of this trend.
