The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill scored a blow against free speech when it slashed funds that prevented a pair of right-leaning journalists from speaking on campus.
The American people quickly struck back.
Journalist Katie Pavlich and Ann McElhinney of FrackNation fame turned to the crowdfunding site Indiegogo to cover the costs needed to bring them to campus.
Two hours later, the duo met their goal to cover the necessary travel costs.
Pavlich and McElhinney were initially invited to speak by the UNC College Republicans, but they say the Congress dubbed them “non-intellectual” and without “value” before the travel funding got slashed.
“It’s censorship,” said McElhinney, director of three feature-length documentaries. “They can’t stand the thought of conservative opinions on campus. So they’re shutting us out. It’s reprehensible.”
“We will not stand for UNC’s attempts to marginalize those who have a different view of the world than the liberal monopoly of academia,” said Pavlich, journalist and New York Times best selling author. “Students deserve a well rounded education, not censorship of speech regarding controversial issues.
Phelim McAleer, who co-created FrackNation with McElhinney, told Breitbart News “there are no longer any gatekeepers” thanks to New Media and outlets like Indiegogo where the American people can make their voices heard.
