The burning of Washington, D.C. bythe British during the War of 1812, the attack on Pearl Harbor on December7, 1941 and the terrible attacks on the New York World Trade Center,the Pentagon and United Flight 93 in 2001 made most of us set aside ourdifferences and help in whatever ways we could.
For residents of New YorkCity the 9/11 attacks were immediate and personal.
Sarah Tufts’ play 110 Stories is a live presentation showing the reactions from Americans, particularly residents of New York, to theterrible attack on the World Trade Center that fateful September morning in2001.
It’s an amazing production that over the last 12 years has broughtactors and other entertainment professionals together, regardless of theirplace on the political spectrum. The play not only keeps the faces, wordsand deeds of the victims, survivors and heroes of Sept. 11, 2001 alive–it also gives back emotionally to those who experienced those dark and gut-wrenching days up close and personal, by making those stories accessible toall.
Before the 2011 performance, New York-based playwright Tufts described110 Stories as “the human side of history without politics or agendagiving voice to those who experienced 9/11 directly. I am thrilled at theoverwhelming support from the acting community to participate in thisproduction.”
Major acting talents have included Samuel L. Jackson, Katie Holmes, JohnTurturro, Jeremy Piven, Katherine McPhee, Susan Sarandon, the late JamesGandolfini, Edie Falco, Cynthia Nixon, John Hawkes and Ed Asner.
This year’s Los Angeles Sept. 11 performance will feature twoGolden Globe nominees Steven Bauer (Ray Donovan, Traffic) and DianeVenora (Heat, The Insider); Two SAG nominees Elisabeth Rohm (The ClientList, Law & Order), and Stelio Savante (Ugly Betty, My Super Ex Girlfriend);Sydney Tamiia Poitier (Death Proof, True Crimes, Grindhouse); Ernie Hudson(Ghostbusters, Miss Congeniality II); Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite, BladesOf Glory); Dash Mihok (Ray Donovan, Silver Linings Playbook), BenitoMartinez (Sons of Anarchy, The Shield), Ethan Kogan (Dr. Gutman’s Eulogy)and Jessica Silvetti (Problem Of Evil).
First performed at the Grove Street Playhouse in New York City only a fewmonths after the fatal attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, 110 Stories instantlyreaped fantastic reviews and started playing to larger venues. The production hasplayed at the New York Skirball Center for the Performing Arts, the PublicTheater, the Vineyard Theater and the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles,amongst other prestigious theaters.
This year’s net proceeds from the Los Angeles production at the NateHolden Performing Arts Center will go to Operation Gratitude that sendscare packages to U.S. troops serving overseas.
