Miley Cyrus is speaking out about her headline–and crotch–grabbing routine at the VMAs, trumpeting that she made “history” with her sexual antics.
After all, the 20-year-old insists, she was simply doing what the culture demands.
I don’t pay attention to the negative because I have seen this play out. How many times have we seen this play out in pop music?
You know now… you know what’s happened. Madonna’s done it, Britney’s done it. Every VMA performance, anyone that performs…that’s what you are looking for.
‘You wanting to make history. Me and Robin the whole time said “You know you are about to make history right now?
Not everyone is happy about Cyrus’ history lesson. Consider One Direction’s Harry Styles, who initially called Cyrus’ gyrations “family friendly” but apparently had a change of heart–or a stern talking to from his PR team.
In an interview with US film website Moviefone the 1D star said: ‘I think it’s quite inappropriate.’
Especially for the age group that it’s aimed at. I think it’s, you know, promoting promiscuity.’
Some have wondered what Cyrus was thinking by putting on such a sexual display. The singer insists she wasn’t thinking at all and gently mocks critics for giving the performance so much examination.
They’re over thinking it. You’re thinking more about it than when I did it. Like I didn’t even think about it because that is just me,’ she said.
