Director Spike Lee appears to be half way toward reaching the goal of his premiere Kickstarter.com campaign.

Look closer, and you’ll notice a glaring lack of Everyman support for the next Spike Lee joint.

Director Phelim McAleer, who successful used Kickstarter.com to fund his pro-fracking documentary FrackNation, crunches the numbers of Lee’s effort and discovers a lack of passion among the director’s fan base.

A quick look at the figures, which Kickstarter helpfully makes public, shows that Lee’s campaign has been mostly funded by a few dozen rich kids.

In fact just 74 people have provided a massive 65 percent of Spike Lee’s total so far. Almost half his total has been donated by 29 ultra rich backers who can afford to give $10,000 to a film project that will see them no financial return….

Strip away Mr. Lee’s rich kid donors and you find that ordinary Americans have given just $212,000 in 14 days. Not exactly a massive grassroots demand for Lee to make another movie.

Compared to the $2 million raised in just 12 hours by fans of the Veronica Mars TV show, Lee’s numbers are downright ordinary.
