Bruce Springsteen burnished his liberal bona fides this week by turning a portion of his Ireland concert into a slam against the acquittal of George Zimmerman.
Springsteen, a vocal supporter of President Barack Obama, dedicated one of the most incendiary songs in his repertoire, American Skin (41 Shots), to the late Trayvon Martin. The song comments on the 1999 shooting of New York resident Amadou Diallo by four police officers.
When the singer saw a sign referencing the song in the crowd he decided to act.
…Springsteen grabbed [the sign] and said to the crowd, “I want to send this one out as a letter back home. For justice for Trayvon Martin.”
Although first performed live in June 2000, Springsteen began featuring the song again during his 2012 tour often dedicating it to Martin.
