Steam, the gaming digital distribution platform run by Valve Corporation, has begun its annual summer sale, offering deep discounts on hundreds of games highlighted by a rotating schedule of special deals.
Originally launched in 2003 by Valve Corporation, developers of the iconic Half-Life series, in the past ten years Steam has become arguably the largest gaming digital distribution application, with over 50 million registered users as of November 2012. Helping to grow its popularity have been the annual summer and winter sales that see deep discounts offered on the majority of titles available through the service.
In addition to the price cuts offered for the duration of the event, daily deals on select titles, as well as “Flash Sales” every eight hours, offer additional chances for customers to snag games at well below their regular asking price.
Steam users can also vote on “Community’s Choice” sales for additional discounts on a choice of three different games, earn digital trading cards by voting for and purchasing titles, and set up alerts to notify them when games they want are marked down.
The sale will run until July 22nd.
