Hollywood celebrities have joined Global Zero, a leftist international nuclear disarmament group, by making a video in which they parrot President Barack Obama’s infamous 2009 speech in Prague where he said he would try to start reducing America’s nuclear stockpile to zero.
The video begins with Obama giving the opening of his speech:
“Today, I state clearly and with conviction America’s commitment to seek the peace and security of a world without nuclear weapons,” followed by intellectual luminaries Michael Douglas, Naomi Watts, Matt Damon and Robert De Niro repeating the speech in Obama’s own words. The conclusion features Obama again, saying, “The world must stand together to prevent the spread of these weapons. “
Obama is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G8 summit in Belfast, and the video is intended to push him to honor his promise. On the website from the group, they claim to be part of an “international campaign urging President Obama to set the world’s course to zero nuclear weapons by negotiating further cuts in the massive U.S.-Russian Cold War stockpiles and bringing other leading nuclear powers into international nuclear arms negotiations for the first time in history.”
Michael Douglas, fresh from his statement that oral sex causes cancer, pontificated, “The message from national security experts and citizens around the world is clear: the only way to eliminate the global nuclear danger is to eliminate all nuclear weapons. It’s time to set the world’s course to zero.”
