Duck Dynasty Star: 'This Is the Greatest Nation on Earth'

As Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson travels the U.S. speaking on college campuses and to churches, a common refrain is that “this is the greatest nation on earth.”

Robertson also name checks some of his American heroes, especially “George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson.”

As the Daily Tribune reported, when Robertson spoke at Northeast Texas Community College he spoke of Washington as the “father of [our] country,” and he quoted Adams as saying: “Statesman, my dear sir, may plan and speculate politically, but it is religion and morality alone which can establish the principles from which freedom can securely stand.”

In quoting Adams, Robertson said he had paraphrased him a bit, but he made sure to tell his audience that when Adams referenced “religion” he meant “Christianity.” Robertson told the audience to “research him” if they thought otherwise.

Still paraphrasing, he then quoted Jefferson: “I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the wages of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.”

When Robertson was finished speaking, an audience member approached to ask him when he planned to run for president.

“I don’t know, but I can tell you one thing, if I ever did run this outfit you want to talk about a trimming and a slashing and a cutting,” the reality star said.

Robertson has apparently taken Jefferson’s lessons on the dangers of wasteful government spending to heart.
