Jay-Z is answering those who criticized his recent trek to Cuba in the forum he knows best.
The hip hop superstar dropped a new track today addressing those who said his wedding anniversary trip to Havana, a city under U.S. travel embargo, was either inappropriate or against the law.
The rapper name-dropped his good buddy President Barack Obama along the way, and in doing so contradicted the government line that it didn’t know who was traveling as part of the Cuban trip’s “educational” program.
[…] Boy from the hood, I got White House clearance… Politicians never did s— for me except lie to me, distort history… They wanna give me jail time and a fine. Fine, let me commit a real crime.
Later, he says President Obama knew about the trip and tried to talk him out of it.
He later raps: “Hear the freedom in my speech… Obama said, ‘Chill you gonna get me impeached. You don’t need this s— anyway, chill with me on the beach.'”
The White House swiftly responded to the song, saying President Obama had nothing to do with the trip and reiterating the Treasury Department’s role in approving it.
Jay-Z also briefed addressed Cuba’s repressive government, one which could gladly redistribute some of his millions if given half the chance.
“I’m in Cuba, I love Cubans. This communist talk is so confusing,” he raps.
