HAMBURG, Germany, March 26 (UPI)–Detractors of the film “Schutzengel” have thrown paint on the Hamburg, Germany, home of the film’s star, Til Schweiger, police said.
The Local.de said the car of Schweiger’s girlfriend also was set on fire and destroyed, apparently in protest of his film, which the group of protesters behind the attack claims glorifies the German army’s presence in Afghanistan.
“A paint attack took place on Sunday night against a house in Hamburg-Nienstedten. A car parked in front of the house was set on fire and completely destroyed,” police spokeswoman Sandra Levgrun told the Hamburger Morgenpost newspaper Tuesday.
Schweiger and Holtmann were not home at the time of the incident, The Local said.
A group has taken responsibility for the vandalism, but no arrests have been made in connection with it.
The actor’s credits include Hollywood filmmaker Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” and the German television series “Tatort.”
