Jim Carrey ups the ante on his coarse anti-gun Tweets by picking on a dead man.
Carrey released a new song and video today dubbed Cold Dead Hand which mocks the late Charlton Heston’s films, his stance on guns and even his penis size.
In short, Carrey blames all gun violence on a dead movie star who believed in the Second Amendment as much as our Founding Fathers did. It’s ironic coming from the star of the upcoming Kick-Ass 2, a movie which promises to bring as much gun fetishism and support for the right to defend ourselves as the original film did.
Carrey, impersonating Heston on a faux episode of Hee Haw, introduces Carrey as the lead singer of Lonesome Earl and the Clutterbusters.
“His immortal soul may lay forever in the sand, the angels wouldn’t take him up to heaven as he planned, cuz they couldn’t pry his gun from his cold, dead hand,” Carrey warbles, sporting a ’70s-era stache and some goofy cowboy dance moves.
Carrey follows that up with a big guns/small penis joke, a gag that curdled about 20 years ago. There’s more so-called satire to follow, but ultimately he wraps things up with a final attack on the screen icon by blaming him for gun violence in America.
“It’s all on you-hoo, and your cold dead hand,” Carrey croons.
The video obviously drips with the kind of condescension forged by a superstar lifestyle where conflicting points of view are rarely heard.
Carrey’s star power has waned in recent years, and he’s shrewdly started tackling supporting roles. His work in the otherwise mediocre The Incredible Burt Wonderstone was a good start, earning him some scene-stealing brownie points.
Blasting gun owners who worry new gun control laws will clamp down on their rights while doing very little to reduce horrific gun crimes may cut off any career resurgence. Picking a fight with someone who can’t defend himself may even alienate him from those who agree with his views on gun control.
