Daryl Hannah can’t draw a crowd like she used to, even with the full-bodied support of her green friends.
The actress best known for Splash got arrested today during a sparsely attended protest against the proposed Keystone XL pipeline which would bring oil from Canada to the U.S.
About 50 people joined Hannah for the protest, meant to convince President Barack Obama to reject the oil proposal.
Shortly after noon, D.C. police began arresting the protesters, who included actress Daryl Hannah as well as prominent climate scientist James E. Hansen, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune and civil rights veteran Julian Bond. Some of the activists tied themselves to the gates with plastic handcuffs; others sat and refused to budge despite officers’ multiple requests.
This isn’t Hannah’s first environmentally-based dustup. The actress previously was arrested in 2006 while trying to prevent an urban community garden’s transformation into a warehouse.
