Ben Affleck will be the first one to say all the events depicted in “Argo,” the story of a successful rescue of six Americans in Iran back in 1980, aren’t precisely true to life.
Hollywood routinely employs creative license in its storytelling, even when the films are based on real events.
That isn’t enough for some Iranian leaders, who are prepping their own “Argo”-themed film to counter Affleck’s narrative.
Iran’s Art Bureau plans to produce a movie in response to “Argo”, the Warner Bros. drama about the 1980 joint CIA-Canadian secret operation to extract six fugitive American diplomatic personnel out of revolutionary Iran.
“The movie entitled ‘The General Staff’ is about the 20 American hostages who were delivered to the United States by the revolutionaries,” director Ataollah Salmanian told the Persian service of MNA on Tuesday.
