HBO, the cable outlet known for its consistent liberal bias, announced today a new documentary on the life of President Bill Clinton.
Guess who is offering his “full cooperation” with the project? The 42nd president himself. Any chance for an honest assessment of Clinton’s political life may have flown straight out the window.
The HBO press release says the documentary will be “made with Clinton’s full cooperation … [and] will explore his perspectives on history, politics, culture and the world.” Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese, who currently works with HBO on the acclaimed series “Boardwalk Empire,” will produce and direct the documentary.
So where does Scorsese stand on Clinton? The quote supplied by HBO gives a hint:
“A towering figure who remains a major voice in world issues, President Clinton continues to shape the political dialogue both here and around the world,” observed Scorsese. “Through intimate conversations, I hope to provide greater insight into this transcendent figure.”
Sounds like a mash note before the first day of production.
Clinton is certainly a fascinating figure, one deserving of a detailed documentary. He’s known for his stewardship of a booming economy, ability to lean toward the political center when needed and a series of presidential scandals, including one that led to his impeachment. HBO’s lengthy history of political bias, combined with the subject’s collaboration with the material, promises a neutered look at a most complicated figure, if not an unabashed love letter to the Left’s beloved politician.
