The pay channel Starz has its work cut out for it chasing big-name competitors HBO and Showtime.
Those channels made themselves indispensable to TV watchers thanks to content like “The Sopranos,” “Weeds” and “Homeland.”
So why would Starz cancel the critically acclaimed original series “Boss?”
Yes, the ratings weren’t impressive, but sometimes a channel needs a program like “Boss” to stand out from the crowd and burnish the brand. Channels like HBO typically don’t worship ratings figures like traditional broadcast outlets do.
The Hollywood Reporter says the series may wrap with a two-hour movie, which would be a fine thank you to the show’s fan base and a sign of respect for both the cast and its small but proud audience.
“Boss” cast Grammer as a corrupt big city mayor grappling with an incurable illness.
