Guillermo del Toro has attached his name to yet another creepy horror film, and it comes with the equally creepy title, “Mama.”
Synopsis: Annabel and Lucas are faced with the challenge of raising his young nieces who were left alone in the forest for five years … but how alone were they?
Thoughts: Del Toro’s involvement in anything is enough to grab my interest, but “Mama” appears more atmospheric and scarier than the generic horror films that have been hitting theaters recently.
“Mama” looks tense, and the tone seems to be just right. Perhaps we will get a horror story that reaches the levels of, say, “Insidious” with this film. Plus, Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain lends her talent to the film, so we know she’ll be classing the place up.
Del Toro and director Andres Muschietti give off nothing but good vibes from this trailer. Hopefully, “Mama” doesn’t disappoint like some other horror films del Toro has attached himself to in recent years (“Splice,” “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”).
“Mama” hits theaters Jan. 18, 2013.
