The person behind the anti-Muslim movie being blamed by the White House for causing the current crush of violence across the Middle East will never hobnob with Hollywood elite.
Nor will he get much support from them, apparently.
Not only has the industry been essentially silent on the filmmaker’s visit by federal authorities for the simple act of shooting a movie, celebrities like Russell Simmons, Bette Midler and Questlove have questioned his right to even make a movie critical of Islam.
Breitbart News reached out to the Director’s Guild of America to see if it had any reaction to the filmmaker’s treatment or whether the incident might have a chilling effect on free speech.
After all, according to its web site, the Guild, “The Directors Guild of America is a labor organization that represents the creative [emphasis added] and economic rights of directors and members of the directorial team working in film, television, commercials, documentaries, news, sports and new media.”
The DGA has no official statement. I can confirm that the filmmaker is not a DGA member and the project was not made under DGA jurisdiction.
Would the DGA’s reaction be the same had President George W. Bush’s administration treated a filmmaker in a similar fashion?
