Beheading former President George W. Bush and putting his head on a stake, as HBO’s series “Game of Thrones” did, was too much for Camryn Manheim, one of the stars of the film “The Hot Flashes.” She lamented to FOX411’s Pop Tarts column:
“(Bush’s head on a stake) and throwing shoes at him, honestly it has gotten despicable. I really think our country is led by politicians and reporters. Reporters have to get back to having responsibility and respect, being respectful to all people elected to office whether they are the person you originally supported or not.”
Sound like a Hollywood conservative coming out of the closet?
Not quite. Manheim continued to prattle on what issues matter to her:
“Health care is one of them, as well as a woman’s right to choose, the right to marry who you want to marry, the war, and how we spend our money. Education is also a big one for me as I have an 11-year-old boy. We have a lot to figure out in this country and I am hoping that this election we can figure out the things we need.”
Obamacare, abortion, same-sex marriage, I think we have a winner!
Of course, once upon a time Manheim was not so circumspect about her leftism:
“It so happened that I also come from a long line of political activists. My brother works for the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) my parents have been arrested for civil disobedience numerous times and I have as well … I wanted to lend my support in some way. I did that by donating my time to all the rallies I could, like a gay rights rally …”
While Manheim protested Bush’s decapitation, her co-star Virginia Madsen waxed eloquent. (I’m joking, I’m joking. The only intelligent thoughts out of actors’ mouths are when they’re playing Shakespeare.)
Madsen’s speech:
“D.C. can repair that by repairing themselves. People have lost respect in general for our government, that’s why it is raining down on our president. I am embarrassed and ashamed when people disrespect the President of the United States regardless. We are losing a lot of our graciousness, politeness and respect as a society so they need to stand up and stop the bickering and be proud to be an American.”
And just where were all these women when George W. Bush was treated like dirt during his presidency? Films were even made calling for his assassination. It is all well and good that they’re calling for civility now that Obama is in office, but using the fig leaf of the “Game of Thrones” incident to call for civility smacks of disingenuousness at the least and hypocrisy at the most. They’re really calling for civility because they don’t want their precious leader in the White House to be hurt by the slings and arrows of the outrageous fortune he’s bequeathed to the country.
