Fresh off his Top 1% Hollywood fundraising windfall, aided in large part by a cynical decision to stop lying about his position on same-sex marriage, President Obama enjoyed a game of basketball the morning after with actors George Clooney and Tobey Maguire.
President Barack Obama played basketball Friday morning with George Clooney, Tobey Maguire and a few staff members, according to the White House pool report.
The game, which took place at the Cheviot Hills Recreation Center, came after a fundraiser on Thursday held at Clooney’s house. The event raised nearly $15 million for Obama and the Democratic Party. Tickets cost $40,000. Barbra Streisand, Salma Hayek, and Jack Black also attended.
No word on if any friendly wagers were made, which would make for an interesting story when you consider Maguire’s been sued for alleged illegal, high stakes gambling:
According to the docs, Tobey, Ruderman and others laid down lots of loot in private, unlicensed, high-stakes games at posh hotels in L.A., including the Four Seasons and the Peninsula. Ruderman — who has already admitted to losing $5.2 million on the poker tables — fell victim to Tobey’s card skills.
Problem for Tobey — in California unlicensed poker games are illegal so the winnings are considered ill-gotten. As for how much, the docs say more than $300,000 between 2007 and 2008.
So now the bankruptcy trustees are going after Tobey, trying to seize his winnings so they can use the money to pay off creditors.
Let’s face it, after Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers, the company Obama keeps surprises no one.
In defense of the President, however, maybe he took some time to scold the uber-wealthy Maguire to pay his fair share of taxes on any alleged winnings from those alleged poker games.
