Few would argue “The Bodyguard” stands as one of the 1990s best films.
It did, however, prove that pop sensation Whitney Houston could command the screen, and the film’s signature hit, “I Will Always Love You” became the song you couldn’t avoid on the radio.
Now, with Houston’s shocking death still resonating, “The Bodyguard” is set to make a one-night-only appearance at more than 400 theaters across the country on March 28. The event is tied to the film’s 20th anniversary, but Houston’s passing clearly makes this much more than simply another film event.
The film’s upcoming theatrical re-release comes the day after “The Bodyguard” hits Blu-ray. The home video edition will feature Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” music video and “Memories of ‘The Bodyguard,'” a making-of documentary featuring director Mick Jackson, writer/producer Lawrence Kasdan, Houston and co-star Kevin Costner.
Tickets for the one-time showing can be purchases at both participating movie theaters and Fathom Events.
