There are certain songs that, when you hear them, they make you happy no matter what mood you are in.
“Daydream Believer” (“cheer up sleepy Jean…”) was one of those songs. It was sung by Davy Jones during his days with The Monkees. Jones had “one of those” voices. He made you feel good, no matter what he sang – “A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You,” “Valleri,” “I Wanna be Free” and many others.
I had the great fortune of Davy coming to my house for my “Summer of Luv” 50th birthday party in 2010, where we all had a sing-a-long of Monkees, Beatles, Herman’s Hermits and others “hits” in my office.
What an experience, to say the least. Davy just loved to sing. He was a completely unpretentious, fun and spontaneous person.
Thank you, Davy, for the sing-a-long. Thank you for your music. And thank you for making me and so many people so happy as you have over the all these years and, through your music, the years to come.
