Abraham Lincoln is going to have a very busy 2012 at the movies.
The biggest project involving the country’s 16th president is director Steven Spielberg’s oft-delayed biopic starring Daniel Day-Lewis as the Great Emancipator.

First up – a novelty lark casting Lincoln as part politician, part undead killer.
“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,” based on the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith, doesn’t hit theaters until June. The film’s first official tease offers a unique spin on the vampire genre.
On the plus side, Bella, Edward and Jacob are nowhere in sight. But the new trailer doesn’t give us more beyond “Matrix” style action and the notion that poly-sci majors need not line up for this affair.
Benjamin Walker (“Flags of Our Fathers”) dons Lincoln’s signature hat, but it’s clear the film is far more interested in genre fireworks. The teaser keeps the plot more or less under wraps. That’s rarely bad, but an emphasis on style over narrative clarity is one reason audiences are wary of films by director Tim Burton, on hand here as a producer.
Timur Bekmambetov (“Wanted,” “Night Watch”) does the directing honors here, and his signature aesthetic is on bold, graphic display.
The vampire genre needs new blood – sorry – so perhaps this mashup movie will arrive in the nick of time.
