Turns out there’s life after being sliced and diced in the media.
Comedian Gilbert Gottfried took plenty of heat for firing off an utterly tasteless joke in the wake of the Japanese tsunami disaster. He got canned by Aflac – he was the voice of the company’s duck – and seemed ready to join comedian Michael Richards in Foot in Mouth Purgatory.
But Gottfried keeps on working. His latest gig – a guest spot on Wednesday’s episode of “Law & Order SVU” – could become a recurring role. The squeaky-voiced comic told The New York Post that his career obituary is premature and that the media could use a dose of perspective on such matters:
“Funny thing about that incident,” he told The Post the other day. “The company fires me, and I became a bigger tragedy and accident than the actual tsunami.
“According to the media, I caused it.”
The incident hasn’t scared him away from social media sites, though.
“I still do [Twitter],” Gottfried says, “I’m waiting for it to kill my career for good.”
