Morning Call Sheet: The Return of Blofeld and the Joy of Cancelling Netflix

—BLOFELD IS NEW BOND 23 VILLAIN?–

This sounds like a move in the right direction. Because for the first time in 40 years the James Bond franchise is in real trouble, at least when it comes to me — and I’m a person. I matter… Right?

Bond producers have strayed so far from their roots, especially with the awful, shaky-cammed “Quantum of Solace,” that the next entry is going to matter more than most. We James Bond fans who enjoy the panache, the hollowed-out volcanoes, the quips, gadgets, and heightened sense of reality — don’t want another “Bourne” film. If we want a “Bourne” movie we’ll watch a “Bourne” movie.

Why did the producers feel the need to go this route, anyway? “Die Another Day” made $432 million. Sure, “Casino Royale” and “Quantum” cleared closer to $600 million, but– Well, there is no “but.” That’s the answer.

And now I feel depressed and alone.

—JUST CANCELLED MY NETFLIX BY-MAIL SERVICE!—

Felt good. You should try it. I feel empowered and a little saucy. (The “saucy” part might be due to a lack of sleep. Actually, I have no idea what “saucy” even means.)

Of course, if Netflix gets their act together, lowers the price and snuffs out New Coke Qwikster, I might be lured back.

But I’m going to have to see a little leg, smell some perfume, and taste that cooking again.
