If the Gay Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has taught us anything over the past few weeks during their PC rampage against free speech — specifically regarding “tranny” jokes airing on television and “electric cars are gay” jokes told on film — it’s that seemingly innocent humor can, among other tragic things, result in violence and/or bullying. So in the spirit of GLAAD’s righteous crusade, I’ve gone ahead and created a new civil rights organization, PFAAD, or the Palin Fan Alliance Against Defamation.
Friday evening in Los Angeles a Hazmat team was dispatched to the CBS offices of “Dancing With the Stars” after staffers there opened an envelope that TMZ says was addressed to Bristol Palin, and discovered it was filled with a white powder substance. Thankfully, it was found to be nothing more than talcum powder, but if the reports prove true the intent seems clear: someone’s determined to bully and/or terrorize Bristol Palin and the DWTS staff. Even more troubling is that this comes just a couple of days after a Wisconsin man, enraged by Ms. Palin’s DWTS win, fired a shotgun round into his television and then engaged in a 15 hour standoff with police.
Inspired by GLAAD, I blame MSNBC, “The View,” Tina Fey, Joy Behar, Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, Kathleen Parker, and of course David Letterman for both of these incidents. After all, if “electric cars are gay” jokes provoke tragedy, what are we to make of the steady drumbeat of Palin criticism, hate and ridicule coming from our comedic and political class, a steady drumbeat that has so far resulted in an act of gun violence and terrorism in just one week.
In order to fight the hate and to stop this growing cycle of violence, I ask you to please join PFAAD in calling for an end to and the forever silencing of any and all humor aimed at Sarah Palin.
Finally, I would like to thank GLAAD for leading the way and creating this template that helped me to see the light through PFAAD, a 501(c)(3) non-profit entity willing to accept money from anyone except former Nazi sympathizers.
