By now, almost everybody in America has taken a stand one way or another on the mosque which imam Feisal Abdul Rauf wants to build just two blocks away from Ground Zero. And although the opinion of 70% of Americans is that it ought not be built near the place where the World Trade Centers once stood, filmmaker Michael Moore is raising money to help fund its construction.

That’s right, that ogre of man who has dedicated his life to overthrowing capitalism, subverting American exceptionalism, and opposing the War on Terror at every turn, has now raised $50,000 to help Rauf build his little “prayer center” two blocks away from the very spot where Muslim terrorists killed almost 3,000 Americans in 2001. Moreover, Moore has gone on record saying his only complaint regarding the proposed mosque is that it’s being built two blocks from Ground Zero instead of right on Ground Zero.

Moore actually said: “I am opposed to the building of the ‘mosque’ two blocks from Ground Zero. I want it built on Ground Zero.”

Just think of what this means: Not only is Moore belittling the deaths of thousands of Americans killed in cold blood nine years ago, he’s also supporting an imam who has a habit of blaming the terrorist attacks on America to begin with. (Rauf is on record calling the United States “an accessory” to the 9/11 attacks and subsequently claiming that Osama bin Laden was “made in the USA.”) Rauf is the same guy who spent last summer uttering “peace, peace” and then, when things didn’t go his way, warned Americans that they may face new jihadist aggression if the mosque isn’t built.

When New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, washed up movie critic Roger Ebert, and our faltering President Barrack Obama supported the construction of the mosque early on, it was outrageous but not on par with what Moore has done. For Bloomberg, Ebert, and Obama did what they did before September 8, 2010, which is when Rauf began talking about the terrorist attacks we might face if we refuse to allow the mosque to be constructed. Yet Moore actually made the calls to raise money for the mosque on September 11, 2010. Not only was this three days after Rauf tried to strong-arm us into building the mosque or face possible attacks, it was the ninth anniversary of the very terrorist attacks that reduced the World Trade Centers to rubble in the first place.

Has Moore no shame?

While everybody understands that fading Hollywood personalities often pull publicity stunts in order to draw attention to their otherwise meaningless careers, I hope Moore realizes that he’s gone far beyond a publicity stunt this time. What he has done here smacks of treason and betrays an unblemished disrespect toward the victims of 9/11.

He is quickly making Jane Fonda look like a patriot.
