Chip Hanlon at Red County:

I have to admit, I automatically figure that every actor or musician is a political Lefty until shown otherwise.

But, boy, that would be the wrong assumption to make of the iconic ’80’s punk band, the Dead Kennedys!

At least, the very first single the band released in 1979 will make any California conservative’s heart sing, I assure you.

First, though, and I have to stop to write this because too many Republicans get squishy fast and end up apologizing for things they didn’t even do if the P.C. police come crashing down: the band’s name was not meant to insult the assassinated Kennedy brothers. Instead, to quote their lead singer, Jello Biafra (how great is that rock and roll name?!), the name was meant to “bring attention to the end of the American Dream.”

Plus, these guys did in fact considered themselves extreme lefties– like most punks, they were actually probably anarchists– so let’s move on… conservatives: you’ve done nothing wrong by merely reading their name in this post.

Now, about that American dream: who better to help end it than Jerry Brown?
