A woman fought off an attacker brandishing a knife on Saturday while she was working alone in her family’s tax business in California, according to a video of the incident.
Concepscion Escalante, 23, was the only one in the office at ALE Insurance Service in Pomona on Saturday when a man entered her storefront business.
Escalante said the man was initially polite and asked for an insurance quote, but left the business. When he returned, he allegedly threatened Escalante with a knife.
The fight turned physical, with the man trying to pin Escalante to the ground while she tried to take the knife and kick him away from her, according to the video of the minute-long brawl.
“I had my sandwich; I put the sandwich on the money, and I turned around. He pulled out the knife right away,” Escalante said. “It was a steak knife. He said, ‘Nothing is going to happen, just give me the money.’ I then hit him in his private area.”
The suspect eventually fled with about $1,000, KTLA reported. Escalante managed to escape the fight without any serious injuries.
Pomona Police announced that the man is responsible for attempted robberies and armed robberies in the area, including those at three gas stations.
The suspect is described as being in his 40s, having brown hair, brown eyes, and a mustache. Police added that the suspect is believed to be five feet and six inches tall and weighing 150 pounds.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Pomona Police Department at 909-620-2155 or send an anonymous tip to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
