During a Thursday appearance on “Fox & Friends,” White House counselor Kellyanne Conway addressed the federal government assisting states as they slowly reopen following the coronavirus pandemic.
After Fox News aired a clip of Gov. Phil Murphy (D-NJ) laying out his plan to reopen, Conway acknowledged the importance of assisting people who need “COVID-related relief,” adding the federal government “doesn’t want to fund the big black hole deficits” states incurred well before the coronavirus outbreak.
“I think that Governor Murphy makes a very important point on people’s mind, which is we want to make sure people have COVID-related relief,” Conway explained. “But the federal government probably doesn’t want to fund the big black hole deficits that many of these states incurred long before COVID. I just want to also credit Governor Murphy and his team, they have been fantastic to work with here at the White House, and we have surged supplies to the state, obviously.”
Conway also commended governors, both Democratic and Republican, for collaborating with the White House and seeking guidance on planning to reopen.
“It’s great to keep collaborating with the White House. We’re at a medical and financial crises at the same time and we’re navigating them,” she said.
