During an interview with Huntsville, AL radio’s WVNN, Rep. Mark Green (R-TN) explained how China was using the coronavirus pandemic, a crisis many believe the communist nation could have prevented, in ways to advance its national interests.
The Tennessee Republican pointed to China’s investment in United States companies under duress from the economic implications of the pandemic as a way to gain a foothold in these technologies.
“Well, I’ll give you an example — in the midst of this crisis, China is buying up small companies that are having cash flow problems in the United States and then can’t continue doing business, so they liquidate the company,” Green said. “And China is buying them. They’re buying them in things like avionics and the aviation industry. I’ve got an amendment that I’m putting together that will address that issue, and keep China from acquiring those national security type of interests.”
Green also noted how China was offering masks to European nations in exchange for implementing its highly controversial Huawei 5G technology.
“Another perspective — China is telling countries in Europe, ‘Oh yeah, we’ll give you masks, but you have to implement our Huawei 5G system,'” Green said. “And that sort of bribery in the midst of a health care crisis really shows the true colors of who China is in this regard. But you’ll absolutely see incentives to bring home manufacturing. There will probably be increased requirements on medical facilities to maintain certain stores of medical equipment. And then, of course, the stockpiles. There will be bills that change the requirements of those stockpiles so that we’re better prepared — no doubt about it.”
