Monday on Fox News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom,” Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) weighed in on the United States’ strategy to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
McCaul stressed the importance of social distancing, adding the United States wants to follow the South Korea model of having more testing available rather than what happened in Italy.
“I think the social distancing factor if I could say is probably the most important element we need to talk about to try to keep what doctor of the NIH talked about is keeping this curve more flat,” McCaul told Fox News. “The next two months are going to be critical with this disease as we saw with South Korea and Italy, two different models. We want to follow the South Korea model — more testing out there and flatten this curve so we don’t have cases increase exponentially.”
McCaul also criticized the crowds of people at airports amid the spread of the disease.
“I think we can do better,” he stated.
“They’re coming in from out of country, they have to go through the medical screening, and they’re waiting in lines for hours with thousands of people. When we’re talking about social distancing … and yet you’ve got hordes of people being held up in line at our airports literally like a petri dish, that has to be corrected,” McCaul added.
