Sunday on WMUR’s “CloseUp,” 2020 Democratic presidential hopeful South Bend, IN Mayor Pete Buttigieg said those who vote for President Donald Trump in the 2020 are cheapening their moral character.

When asked about Trump voters being uncomfortable about being lumped in as racists, Buttigieg said, “We are asking voters to think about what they are tolerating. A lot of people say they are not voting for him because of the racism but in spite of it. What kind of  argument is it, first of all, to say you should tolerate the racial rhetoric of this president?”

He continued, “His has basically been ‘Hey tolerate the chaos, tolerate the racial remarks, tolerate the bad example for your children. Just put up with all of that because I am delivering for you economically.’ But if you actually look at the economy, he is delivering job growth almost as good as we had in the Obama years. That may be coming to an end. It is an argument that just does not make sense. And I think it cheapens the moral character of voters and the decision before us. There is any number of reasons why people might have voted the way they did in 2016. In 2020 I think he has a low level of respect for voters’ judgment if he thinks they are just going to come along with this forever. We cannot take more of this. It is exhausting. More importantly, It is not solving the problems affecting us in our everyday lives.”
