Alligators have been finding new ways to get around in Florida by climbing fences and swimming in flooded roads, according to several videos.

Two videos within the past week show one gator climbing a fence while another swims in a busy road near someone’s vehicle.

The first video, which had been viewed more than 41,000 times as of Monday afternoon, shows the alligator climbing a fence in Jacksonville at a naval air station within the city, WSVN-TV reported.

The second video was from Roger Light Jr., a resident in St. Petersburg, Florida, who filmed the encounter on Thursday when he noticed the intrusive gator swimming in a giant puddle near an intersection during a torrential downpour.

“This alligator startled me, when out of nowhere I saw it coming towards me when I was stopped at the traffic light in front of WaWa on Gandy Blvd and Grand Ave. I was wondering why people were out video taping in the pouring rain and people backing up in the right turn lane that the gator was in,” Light Jr. said.

“One minute I’m just looking around waiting for traffic light to turn green and than next thing I knew I see this gator coming towards me on my passenger side lol,” he continued.

In that instance, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission spokesperson confirmed that a bystander got the alligator out of the way of the intersection before it got trapped.

Officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission urge anyone with concerns about alligators on their property to call its Nuisance Alligator Hotline at 866-FWC-GATOR.
